What is a Sociomap? Sociomaps are innovative 3D graphics that are reminiscent of a geographical landscape. Each team member is represented by a point on the Sociomap and the distance between the points represents the relative social distances between each of the team members for a selected characteristic. The closer two people appear on the Sociomap, the closer they are in relation to a selected parameter of measurement such as the importance or frequency of communication. The relief, or height of the Sociomap can be used to display another characteristic, or a weighted variable such as the effectiveness of communication. This new type of visualization captures of all the relationships in the data presented in one easily interpretable snapshot, highlighting patterns that would be difficult or even impossible to see using standard formats for presenting team data.
